University City is located in the northwestern portion of San Diego, California. UC, as it's commonly referred to, is divided into two sections by Rose Canyon. University Square lies south of Rose Canyon and is the older part of University City, built in the 1960's. North of Rose Canyon is a newer area commonly referred to as UTC, short for University Towne Center, a local shopping mall. Commercial developers nicknamed all of University City the "Golden Triangle."
With approximately 52,000 residents, University City maintains a small town feel, yet it is in the heart of a thriving metropolis.
